Background Info

With 4 acres of land to play with, Sally has thrown herself into learning about dry mediterranean gardening. We would like to attract more birds, bees and butterflies to the area with beautiful and interesting plants and trees that do not need to be watered after their initial two years of being planted. Olivier Filippi's 'Dry Gardening Handbook' provided much inspiration and source of plant lists, together with taking up membership of the very informative Mediterranean Garden Society. Due to the scale of the project, we have allocated 'zones' to make planning and planting more manageable and focussed.  During October and December 2022, Sally purchased and planted 439 plants and trees, comprised of 221 different varieties from Italian and French nurseries (mainly Pepiniere Filippi, Gerard Weiner's Pepiniere de Vaugines, and Vivai Capitanio). We're sure that some of these plants will be new to Puglia and are hoping to propogate and generate interest locally, to create more awareness of drought-tolerant plants and the colour and interest they can provide. The plants first Summer of 2023 proved incredibly harsh and 3 months of no water or rain resulted in quite a few of them dying. The plant list grades those that survived by how well they survived and our YouTube channel has several episodes on Dry Gardening
